Manifest for a Free Europe in the Age of AI
"Humanity First – Machines in the Service of Humanity"
Preamble
We, citizens of Europe, demand policies that place artificial intelligence at the service of people – not the other way around. We recognize the enormous potential of AI, but also its fundamental danger: the dehumanization of our society. That is why we need bold, clear, and incorruptible guidelines.
I. Ban on Lobbying in the Tech Sector
No law should be created by corporations. No decision should be driven by private interests.
- Full transparency of all contacts between politics and industry
- Ban on financial donations to decision-makers by corporations
- Establishment of independent ethics councils without industrial influence
II. Critical Public Education
Education is the best defense of democracy against loss of control.
- Introduction of a compulsory subject “Digital Ethics & AI” in all schools
- Independent public campaigns focusing on risks and social consequences of AI
- Promotion of critical media formats, debates, and citizen dialogues
III. Laws & Charters Without Loopholes
The machine needs rules. Not someday – now. Not soft – but binding.
- Ban on autonomous weapons and mass surveillance
- Mandatory labeling for all AI systems in public interaction
- International charter for human-centered AI (comparable to climate agreements)
- Sanctions for abuse or violations – for both governments and companies
IV. Judiciary as a Shield
Only an independent judiciary can defend fundamental rights against technological supremacy.
- Politically independent procedures for appointing judges
- Creation of digital constitutional courts for AI-related fundamental issues
- Clear anchoring of digital fundamental rights in the EU Charter
Closing Statement
AI is not the enemy – indifference is. It is up to us whether we use technology or become subject to it. Our humanity is not negotiable.
This manifesto is a call to everyone – citizens, politicians, educators, journalists, lawyers – not to let algorithms write our future. But to write it ourselves.
