Current deployment location and role (as of January 2026)

Homan was appointed "Border Czar" by US President Donald Trump. In this role, he is responsible for border security and the strategic planning and execution of deportations.
However, his current primary posting is in Minnesota.

  • Deployment to Minneapolis: President Trump personally dispatched Homan to Minneapolis on January 26, 2026. He is to assume on-site control of the ongoing operations of the Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE).
  • Background to the deployment: The deployment followed two fatal shootings by federal agents in Minneapolis (including the case of nurse Alex Pretti). Homan replaces the previous head of operations, Greg Bovino.
